Newsletter Term 1 2022

Welcome back to lessons! Term 1 is off to a fun start and we are loving seeing our students progressing with each lesson.

New Staff Members

We are pleased to introduce our newest additions to our Swim School! You will see them at various shifts at Canning Vale or Willetton. Kimberley and Sophia are great netball players, and Zoe is studying Social Work. Amelia is doing her schooling online and Erasta taught swimming in Hong Kong before teaching in Perth.

Covid & Makeups

In order to be eligible for a makeup lesson, we must receive a minimum of 3 hours’ notice prior to your scheduled lesson.

More families than usual are needing to take advantage of our makeups system as many students have already been required to go into self isolation - so it is more important than ever that the required notice is given. This allows other families sufficient time to make use of your spot for the day.

Please do not get mad at our staff for refusing a makeup if late notice is given.

All absences must be lodged through your swim school's Customer Portal:

You can do so by using the following Link

Lifesaving Story!

Well done to 10 year old Vaishnavi who saved her sister during the holidays! Here's how the story unfolded, as told by her Mother:

On 1st Jan we were at friends - the 4 children aged between 5 and 11 were dipping their toes in their pool.

They were not allowed in as the pool was not balanced. All adults stepped inside the house for a minute and we heard my elder daughter, Vaishnavi, scream out my younger daughter's name so we all ran back out. When we reached the pool, both my daughters were in the water, the older one holding the younger one.

From what we came to know from the kids, 5 year old Shivanyya had slowly gone towards the deeper side of the pool and, while trying to touch the water, had lost her balance and toppled into the pool. Her older sister, 10 year old Vaishnavi, who was on the other side with the other children, saw her and screamed to alarm us and quickly jumped into the pool to save her younger sister.

We are very grateful to Waterwise Swim School to have been able to develop that courage in Vaishnavi - she is currently in level 5 and loves her lessons with Teacher Iiyla.

If she had been less confident in that situation, the outcome would have been different. Shivanyya was safe and realised how important it is to know swimming - she decided to come back to swimming lessons which she had been taking a break from.

We love what we do and are grateful to the thousands of families who have trusted us with their little ones over the years.

Communications between Swim School & Your Family

There are a number of means we use to communicate to our families. We try not to over-communicate, so please take a minute to read when we do.

** Messages sent with little notice or intended for every family, are sent through the Waterwise Swim School App - you must have Notifications enabled in order for our messages to popup on your screen. If you need help with the App, please ask Reception.

** We also use emails to send longer messages that have less urgency. If our emails end up in your Spam folder, please mark us as a safe sender.

** You can use the Customer Portal to contact us and we will receive that as an email. Emails are only checked during Office Hours which is why absences need to be marked by you within the Customer Portal. For example, if your child wakes up sick in the middle of the night, they won't be okay for a lesson in the morning - you will be surprised how many other parents might be up at the same time and just happen to be looking for a makeup spot to catch up on a lesson. They will then be able to grab your spot for the day. It has happened at all hours of the night! 🙂

Social Media

Instagram and Facebook are  used for more informal and fun messaging but we do also post Term Date reminders and other important info so please follow, like, comment and share where appropriate.

The latest algorithms mean many followers aren’t seeing our content. Not that we post very often but we would love to see more of our families interacting with us when we do.
