Newsletter Term 1 2019

Happy 2019 to all our existing and new families! We hope you have all had a fun summer and are as excited as we are to begin another swim year.

We have had a water cooler installed at the Swim School for everyone to enjoy. The cooler is environmentally friendly and, as such, there are some plastic cups available for the next few days only. Thereafter, you will need to bring your own water bottle if you would like to use it. Thank you for your understanding. We hope our families will enjoy the convenience of having refrigerated water available.

Waterwise - The First 6 Years

Do you know the history of our Swim School?

Waterwise was started as an idea in the summer break of 2013. Stacy didn't even have a single student yet! But soon she had the first one, then another, and another. Friends and families quickly spread the word that a new swim school in Willetton was teaching children to swim faster than most other programs in Perth.

By early 2014, Wendy joined Stacy and the swim school began to grow even more!

In 2016, they met Alex when he enrolled his then Newborn into swimming lessons. Wendy and Alex invested in Waterwise and helped Stacy build the new facility which opened in Willetton from Term 4 2017.

Now commencing our 7th year, we have more instructors working with us and over 500 students in our pool every week. We are excited about helping so many families in our community, and giving students a love for swimming.

We love what we do and are grateful to the thousands of families who have trusted us with their little ones over the years.

Flotation Devices

If you have a pool at home, or spend a lot of time around water, please do not rely on arm bands, vests or other flotation aids to keep your child safe! The only way a child is safe in water, is if they have the skills to save themselves.

This well written article tells the story of baby Jackson who loved to swim in his puddle jumper but drowned when he wasn't supposed to be swimming. This mom now advocates for survival swim lessons and warns parents not to use aids that promote false security.

As the article points out, traditional Parent & Child swimming lessons can also give children a love for swimming without children realising that water also has consequences. Whilst we try to teach survival skills in our group lessons, please be aware that it can take a few years of continuous terms before children are safe in those programs.

New Program

Following on from that, we have been concerned at the length of time it is taking some of our Pre-school and School age children to get safe through our Royal Life Saving "Swim and Survive" curriculum.

We believe every child should be safe and independent before learning perfect kicking legs or how to blow bubbles. That is why we developed the Drowning Prevention Program to bridge the gap between our Stage 1/2 classes and our Survival Swim program.

We are already getting great results! The program is suitable for all children 3 and over who would not be okay if they fell into water unseen and unheard. Every child's safety around water is our priority.

Please read more about the program here, or talk to one of our staff.

Huggies Free Lesson for Babies & Toddlers

Children up to 4 years old who are still in nappies, can claim their Free Swim lesson by purchasing a pack of Huggies Swim Nappies. Families already enrolled in our program will have a makeup added to their account, or they can give the free lesson to a friend or family member with an eligible child.

Please note that a valid Voucher with a unique code is required to claim your free lesson.

Price List

The price of all swimming lessons was adjusted in December. This applies to all families who did not sign up for the whole year. Please see the new pricing on our website:

Our App & Customer Portal

Swim School App:

The App is used sparingly (we won't spam you!) for short, important messages that need to go to every family, for example reminders of Term dates. If you haven't downloaded it yet, search "Waterwise Swim School" in itunes App Store or Google Play. Please make sure you have notifications enabled!

Customer Portal:

The Customer Portal is where you can check all your enrolment details, notify us of an absence (so long as it is more than 3 hours before your scheduled lesson time), and where you can book makeups. There is a tab linking to the Customer Portal in the App, or you can use the link below:
